"Port Authority" features 20 paintings, all paying homage to the Bay Area's maritime heritage. The geometry, scale, and grit of this landscape has always inspired me, and this series hopes to capture a sense of the random beauty of this iconic industry.
This is my first solo show of paintings, and I am stoked. I have never put this much work into a single project before - and I am better for having done it. I learned so much - how to plan, execute, and let my brush do what it wants. And I learned all about black gesso. Turns out it is far more intuitive for me to paint on a black surface than a white one.
These paintings are on display the entire month of May at Hotel Biron, which happens to be one of my favorite places in all of San Francisco. If you are in SF during May, please stop in and check them out. They are better in person.
Here is a gallery of all the work in the show. I created 15 all new paintings for this exhibit, and am including 4 others that I did previously that work well with the theme. They are named after common maritime terms. Enjoy!
