Working in the Studio
I have had this old painting sitting around for about 6 years. Back in the day, it was part of a series called "Lexical Gap" that I worked on for years. I did about a dozen paintings in this style. I think this painting is marks when I officially ran out of steam with the project.
Nothing like taking something old and adding something new. Stripes. Lots of stripes. I am intrigued with what is happening here.
This week will be busy in here at 3 Fish. I plan on getting the etching press all primed, and ready to print up some of my old plates, and some new linoleum cuts I have yet to work on.
And Annie is all excited about the wood boxes that she is painting on. Nothing more than some 1x2s formed into a square, an equal size of quarter-inch oak veneer to rest on top, and nailed together with brads from an air gun.
And look what she is doing on them: Bears in Mexican Wrestling Masks Wading Through Shallow Water Like Godzilla! I fricking love it.
She was planning to pay someone to make these boxes, but I suggested we could do it ourselves. She thought it would be too hard, which is funny to me, because that is what she always says, particularly when I am about to do something that she would never herself consider doing (making a risotto, painting the house, fixing a lamp, or now making a box). I get such a sweet satisfaction in working hard to get something done that can be enjoyed by many - and especially her.
So I think I talked her into letting me get a table saw, an air compressor, and some nail guns. My brother Bob will be so proud.

I want a bear with the wrestling mask for my bar!
Awesome!
