So this little tomato here represents the fruit of my efforts to grow many more of same out here in the cold, foggy, Richmond District of San Francisco. While most of my beloved readers have been experiencing Summer in the Northern Hemisphere, we out here in the borderlands of the Pacific Plate know only the ubiquitous marine layer, which keeps the skies grey, and temperatures at 57 degrees. Yet somehow, I grew this tomato. Not a big one mind you - its quite tiny actually. Please note the dime to the left in the picture above. Yes, tiny.
I took this little red gem and cut it into four tiny little slices. Next, I cut a small slice of fresh mozzarella cheese, and rested the cheese on a lovely seeded cracker. Then I carefully arranged the small tomato slices on top of this cheesy cracker, and proceeded to drizzle a small amount of fresh-pressed olive oil, followed by a line of aged balsamic vinegar, on the surface of this savory snack. A little Flor de Sel and fresh ground pepper later, and sprinkled with micro greens of basil, and I had created this little culinary masterpiece, which tasted just like summer makes me feel.
